The South Metro Denver area includes more than 33,000 jobs in the information industries. The information sector comprises establishments engaged in the following processes: (a) producing and distributing informational and cultural products, (b) providing the means to transmit or distribute these products as well as data or communications and (c) processing and analyzing data. Information technology and communications companies form the backbone of the information industries sector of the South Metro Denver economy.

Colorado and South Metro Denver are leaders in telecommunications for a variety of reasons, including a robust, educated and highly qualified workforce, extensive telecom infrastructure, a growing customer base, low to moderate costs of doing business and an excellent quality of life. Qwest, Comcast, TW Telecom and Dex Media are all major employers in the area. Additionally, EchoStar, Liberty Media and Liberty Global have their corporate headquarters in South Metro Denver. In 2007 metro Denver had the third highest concentration of communications services employment in the country.

ViaSat, a producer of digital communication products for commercial and government markets, signed a 98,000 square foot lease at the Parkside Office Plaza in the Inverness Business Park and anticipates hiring 50 new employees beginning spring 2011.
CIBER, Inc, a leading international systems integration consultancy, is expanding their global headquarters in Greenwood Village.
Comcast Corporation has a large presence in South Metro Denver and recently built a major data and call center in Centennial to service the Western United States. The company leased a 61,436 square foot building for a new high-end call center to service Comcast business customers, and will add 200 new jobs.
IHS, Inc., a leading global source of critical information and insight, is headquartered in Douglas County and employs more than 3,800 people in 20 countries. Founded in 1959, the company is celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2009, and continues to grow, having acquired seven companies in 2010.
