Healthcare & Health Services

The South Metro Denver region is home to a strong and growing healthcare and health services industry.  Industries in the hospital subsector provide medical, diagnostic and treatment services and employ physicians, nurses and assorted support and administrative staff. This key industry also includes companies which manufacture and deliver health care services and products.

This industry is projected to grow by 26% between 2006 and 2016, faster than the 21.8% growth rate for all other industries in the area.  The ambulatory healthcare services subsector is projected to grow by 30.5% between 2006 and 2016, with much of that growth coming from the expanding pool of aging baby-boomers.

Sky Ridge Medical Center (HealthOne) in Lone Tree and Parker Adventist Hospital (Centura) in Parker are two award winning hospitals which have opened in the region within the past six years.  Littleton Adventist Hospital (Centura) has been serving the South Metro area for almost 20 years.  The Parker and Sky Ridge facilities are both completing expansion projects.  The Baxa Corp., which provides hospitals and homecare facilities with innovative drug delivery systems, is headquartered in Douglas County and Cochlear Americas, the world leader in advanced hearing solutions, has its corporate headquarters in Centennial.

Rocky Vista University, a College of Osteopathic Medicine, welcomed their first 150 students in August 2008.  The University is located in Parker and adds another strong component to the growing healthcare and health services industry in South Metro Denver.  By 2011, Rocky Vista will feature a nursing school and a school for physician's assistants.

The Metro Denver region ranks seventh among the top 50 metro areas for 2007 in employment concentration in medical devices and 23rd for pharmaceutical and biotechnology employment.
